My Mother's Clothes

A few months ago, I was attending the Swan Coach House in Atlanta for a Bridesmaids Luncheon. The Swan Coach House is known for it's girly and southern atmosphere with delicate foods, savvy shopping and unique art gallery. While the other girls were busy browsing the gift shop, I found myself wandering into the gallery to check out the latest show. To my surprise, I discovered the most unique, touching, stylish and personal show I've even seen. "My Mother's Clothes" Lining the room were these huge square prints - obviously made with a medium to large format camera. Each photo displayed a personal article from the photographer's grandmother - either a piece of clothing, a lipstick blot or her day planner. Not only were the items photographed separately in their own right, but they were strategically placed on wonderful backgrounds with texture and style. I just LOVED the effect of seeing the entire show at one time. It was just magical. I stumbled upon a sign explaining the story of the photographer. She wanted to commemorate her mother in a way that exhibited her sophistication, style, grace and personality. Her mother had since passed and this was a way to remember the small details. I just adored this show and continued to remember it for days to come...

Well....just yesterday, I was walking down Broughton Street here in Savannah, when this bright and colorful photograph in a window caught my eye. It was MUCH to my surprise and excitement to discover not only was the photographer here in Savannah, but her prints had been transformed into a book and she was visiting for a book signing. I was thrilled! I quickly went inside Paris Market and was greeted by this sweet, charming and wonderful photographer. Her name is Jeannette Montgomery Barron and get ready to hear a lot about her! Everyone MUST go out and buy this book! It's absolutely stunning and such a pleasure to read. Kate Spade will be one of the retailers carrying this stylish piece of artwork. You can preview the book here and buy the book here.

Enjoy - this will make a fabulous gift for Mother's Day!

personalized stationery wardrobe { letterpress, savannah, ga }

How sweet is this! Some friends of ours were married not too long ago and the new wife approached me about designing a logo to represent their marriage and new-found life together. She wanted a timeless logo that she could use on linens, stationery, invitations, gift tags, anything and everything! Because she's an interior designer and he works for his family's marine company, this artwork just seemed fitting! After completing the logo artwork for Kathryn, Jim, her sweet hubby, secretly commissioned me to product an entire wardrobe of stationery as a surprise for her birthday! We printed 250 of each piece - enough to last a lifetime! Of course, for his new bride - only the best was allowed - navy letterpress Crane paper! We did flat correspondence cards with matching envelopes, foldover notes with matching envelopes, stationery writing sheets, large notepads, small notepads and gift tags. What a lucky lady!

spanish moss-themed wedding invitations {letterpress, savannah, ga}

Check out this gorgeous letterpress wedding ensemble for Clayborne and Ryan. We worked closely to create an invitation that set the mood of their outdoor, casual, but elegant wedding. Since their wedding will take place under the spanish moss of Bethesda Chapel - this just seemed so appropriate! We even created the spanish moss-kissed oak tree just for the occasion! We printed it on Crane Lettre Paper and it's so beautiful in person. If you are interested in this design for your upcoming wedding, please email me at emily@emmajdesign.com to get started. Pricing begins at $850 for 100 in flat printing, $1125 for 100 in letterpress printing.

our Living Room REDO

So as some of you know, my hubby and I had the house on the market for a while, but recently took it off the market for a while. We decided to embrace our little historic colonial for a couple more years! Since we decided to stay, I said "we MUST redo the livingroom!". We started out with a few hand-me-downs and added a few pieces of our own. I'm ready for a change and with that comes new paint, furniture, colors and accessories. As I'm typing, I hear the hustle bustle of the painters working away at
our new paint color for the livingroom, piano/sunroom and main hallway.

Here's our paint color from Benjamin Moore { Crystalline }.

Still trying to decide on what color scheme to coordinate with the wall color, but I love the idea of incorporating NAVY. Thoughts?

Love this Rug in Navy Stripe Striped Rug from Ballard Designs:

Now for the couch. This has been a struggle because our furniture shopping in Savannah is very limited for the type of look we're going for. We want a clean look on the edges and shape, but want it to be comfortable and deep-set. Here's one we found online at one of our local retailers,24e. They have another one in the window that I just love so looks like we might be going there this weekend!
Also, love this one from Pottery Barn, but does anyone know if this is super comfy?
Like...the kind of comfy that you just sink dow
n into and want to read a book?

And maybe throwing in a little orange? or what accent color? Perhaps kelly green?

This pillow from ZGallerie:

This pillow from local Savannah's Number Four Eleven {FAB store by the way!}

and an Accent Chair beside my banana leaf plant!
