the living room changes begin!

So we're well on our way to our new and improved living room! We finally painted the color below and are about to place our order for the Madeline Weinrib rug below, the Fabricut black and white fabric for the windows, our couch arrived from www.24estyle.com and our Marimekko Black and White Pillows have arrived. Headed to www.numberfoureleven.com tomorrow to finalize the remainder of the items: Pillows, tables, lamps and more!

Also, super excited to order my own custom designed fabric from www.spoonflower.com. This will hang in the adjoining dining room with custom white and blue slipcovers from www.shopsatchel.com. The walls are red so it will combine the two rooms well!

custom name wall art

My talented designer friend, Kate, commissioned me to design artwork for 2 frames she bought for her apartment. She has a lot of brightly colored decor and fabrics from her trips abroad to India and China so she wanted something to reflect those colors. Here's how they turned out! Both pieces were designed with 1) the letters of her first name, katherine and 2) her initials KEM. Enjoy!

our Living Room REDO

So as some of you know, my hubby and I had the house on the market for a while, but recently took it off the market for a while. We decided to embrace our little historic colonial for a couple more years! Since we decided to stay, I said "we MUST redo the livingroom!". We started out with a few hand-me-downs and added a few pieces of our own. I'm ready for a change and with that comes new paint, furniture, colors and accessories. As I'm typing, I hear the hustle bustle of the painters working away at
our new paint color for the livingroom, piano/sunroom and main hallway.

Here's our paint color from Benjamin Moore { Crystalline }.

Still trying to decide on what color scheme to coordinate with the wall color, but I love the idea of incorporating NAVY. Thoughts?

Love this Rug in Navy Stripe Striped Rug from Ballard Designs:

Now for the couch. This has been a struggle because our furniture shopping in Savannah is very limited for the type of look we're going for. We want a clean look on the edges and shape, but want it to be comfortable and deep-set. Here's one we found online at one of our local retailers,24e. They have another one in the window that I just love so looks like we might be going there this weekend!
Also, love this one from Pottery Barn, but does anyone know if this is super comfy?
Like...the kind of comfy that you just sink dow
n into and want to read a book?

And maybe throwing in a little orange? or what accent color? Perhaps kelly green?

This pillow from ZGallerie:

This pillow from local Savannah's Number Four Eleven {FAB store by the way!}

Local Artist Spotlight : Trellis Payne

In Savannah, we have a local artist who paints the most fabulous creations!!! Being a non traditionalist myself - I can truly appreciate her whimsical and quirky approach to her subject matters! Check out her website at www.trellispayne.com to browse her portfolio - you can also contact her if you wish to purchase one of her paintings! I can't wait to move and redecorate so I can invest in one of her pieces!

Here's Trellis pictured here at Nadeau Savannah { a favorite furniture store! }
where her paintings are for sale!

Shown here: Her trio of Wild Fruit!

I especially love this one because as a child people mistake my maiden name, Thigpen, for Pigpen, we later embraced it as a family so this would be a good tribute!

I just love her use of color! Peacock Panache

Living Room Idea Board

So a friend of mine just moved and needed some help with her living room look. I am by all means not an interior decorator, but I put together a story board based on some feedback from her and my own ideas.

Fabulous and Favorite Rooms Friday

In honor of our FAVORITE upcoming holiday, St. Patrick's Day, I decided to round up my favorite green-inspired room. To start it off, I'm showing our guest bathroom (which let me tell you how far we've come since the seashell wallpaper it started with!)

Just love the look of BLACK and Green! Nice touches of Green without being too much...
Always love the zebra print!
Just love this nursery from Serena and Lily!

Check out a fabulous local store called Number Four Eleven!

Favorite Room Friday!

So I just love looking at decorating magazines and getting inspiration for my own home. I really admire people that can really people off a punch of color without looking tacky, crowded or busy. House Beautiful just has the best variety of decorating features. I love their style: combining a little traditional with a lot of modern. This really fits my style because we have a lot of furniture and paintings from my grandparents. It has often been difficult to make everything look young and fresh. Check out this great combo of Turq and Pink/Coral - my new favorite colors!
just love the pop of color in a neutral setting:
Love how modern colors were mixed with traditional accents here:

and the chic beach theme of this living room:

Our Bathroom got a Facelift!

{ AFTER }

{ BEFORE }

A few of you have inquired about seeing the bathroom before and after. After removing the many layers of wallpaper and old paint, we were able to finally able to complete our bathroom with some fresh paint, a new shower curtain, new mirror and light fixture. I LOVE using traditional mirrors with a frame instead of the flat mirror that's typically in bathrooms.

Cover It!

Well I'm excited to say that I finally got my long-awaited slipcover completed for my Nana's cream couch in the piano room. I have to say it looks FABULOUS! The Seeger girls were a pleasure to work with and provided such a great product! Now my room is finally starting to look completed...well, except for the Christmas tree that needs to be ditched by the hubby! If you live in the Savannah area and want a custom slipcover made for any piece of furniture , contact Elizabeth Seeger at Satchel! She can do couches, chairs, parson chairs, just about anything! It's a great way to update an antique or hand-me-down, and you can easily remove them for washing. Elizabeth also does custom handbags that are as beautiful as they are practical.

Ho Ho Ho!

Christmastime is my favorite time of the year! Since I work in retail, Christmas doesn't really seem to end since we begin working on next Christmas after this Christmas is over! But, I DO enjoy when the actual season gets here because you get to enjoy what the season is really about - family, friends, spending time together, baking treats for the people in your life, helping the less fortunate and of course, that little baby Jesus! We have a few collections going on in our house that you see 1) our Nutcracker collection or what we like to call "Our Army!" 2) Patrick's Dicken's Village that his mom started when he was young, 3) the many entertaining pieces that I've collected over the years and 4) our little Irish Angels. Enjoy!
